Description

Army officers' sword made by Carl Eickhorn from the Field Marshall series, Pattern 1706 - Scharnhorst.

Gerhard Johann David Waitz von Scharnhorst was a Prussian General and Chief of Staff, noted for his reforms of the army and leadership during the Napoleonic Wars.

This early heavy production features a lion head design and a highly detailed handle. Some gold gilt remains in the grooves. The grip wires are intact. Both red stones for the eyes are still attached. The scabbard has been repainted  but still has both scabbard lip screws present. The clean nickel-plated blade bears the Eickhorn logo stamped on the back. A leather buffer pad is still around the blade at the cross guard.

The saber is complete with a green leather army portepee.
