Description
Grouping to Luftwaffe pilot Winfried von Holleuffer, born on 5.9.1922 and killed in action on 23.2.1942 near Staraja Russa.

The Pilots Badge is a nice early tombak example made by Brüder Schneider Wien (BSW). It is clearly maker marked on the reverse of the eagle. A worn badge in good condition. Original rivets, original attached hinge and catch. The case matches the condition of the badge. Overall a nice clean badge in good condition 2. The case is the matching BSW one.

There is also a personal diary by Winfried von Holleuffer’s sister. She wrote in it from 1925 until 1944. She describes how the family received the letter of Winfried von Holleuffer’s death shortly after his fathers 50th birthday. She writes that the letter explained that von Holleuffer and his Staffel were on their way back to Riga. South East of the Ilmensee, near Staraja Russa, his aircraft took a direct hit. They had to make a forced landing however the crew survived and hid in the woods. That was the information she wrote down in her diary at this time. About 2 years later she dreamt of her brother and wrote in the diary she still hopes he will return. It therefore seems that the family might have been informed about his death a lot later. Maybe after the war. The official date of his death was the day of his direct hit and forced landing: 23.2.1941.

There are a few family documents and photos. One nice portrait of him wearing the Pilots Badge part of the this grouping! One also shows Winfried von Holleuffer as a young child with his details on the back.

Personal photo album with 41 photos. Some show Winfried von Holleuffer and also his sister, the writer of the diary.

A very personal and unique grouping.
