Description
Wachtmeister (Feldwebel) Kurt Sonnendorfer was born on 10.5.1918. He served from the first until the last day of WW2 and survived the war. He was dismissed on 9.5.1945 as a note in his Soldbuch confirms. Sonnendorfer joined Geb-Nachr.Abt.54 in 1937, served with Nachr.Ausb.Abt.7 and with Panzer-Nachrichten-Kompanie „R“ (Sturmdivision Rhodos). The pink piped shoulder boards he had worn serving with this Panzer-Nachrichten unit are part of the lot and exactly the same shown on many original photos of Sonnendorfer!

A scarce pair of original and well worn „been there“ shoulder boards. Pink piped Panzer tropical/Afrikakorps boards in good condition. There is no moth damage. On shoulder shows serious wear to the tress. Im sure he had worn some belt at this position or carried something around his shoulders for a long time! Nice sun-bleached boards!

The Soldbuch is a first edition fro 26.8.1938! He carried it right until the last day of the war. The cover has separated (reverse) but all pages are complete! It was never denazified and comes with all swastikas. The front page shows a great period time applied photo of Sonnendorfer in his tropical uniform wearing skulls on his collar. He wears exactly the same shoulder boards which are part of this offer. The same boards can bee seen on many other photos inside his photo albums (see next lot). The Soldbuch is full of notes and provides all details on his service time you need to know. The last page gives a list of his awards: Sudetenland Medal and the War Merit Cross 2nd Class with swords (Sturm-Division Rhodos).

His postwar POW questionnaire gives you a lot of additional information. For example that he served in Poland from September 1939, in France from May-December 1940, on Rhodes island from June 1943 - September 1944 and in the Balkan area from September 1944 until the end of the war.

The paper even provides information prior the Second World War: He joined the RAD in 1937 and Gebirgs-Nachrichten-Abteilung 54 on 3.11.1937. He stayed with that unit until October 1943 before we was ordered to Sturmdivision Rhodos as a Wachtmeister and Funktruppführer. His exact unit in mentioned in his Soldbuch: Panzer-Nachrichten Kompanie „R“ (Rhodos).

There are other interesting period time documents such as a list of his comrades with Feldpost numbers, his March 1941 issued Wehrmacht driving license, his DAF and RLB booklet and a 1944 calendar.

A very nice grouping with room for additional research. See next lot for 3 personal photo albums of Wachtmeister Sonnendorfer!
