Description

An excellent photo lot of the Italian mountain troops "ALPINI". Taken in Bavaria or Austria between 1936 and 1938. Very nice shots of their uniforms. Please note the unique cap of the unit. Including a photo of King Wilhelm II. of Württemberg, photos of Wehrmacht Gebirgjsjäger, WWI photos as well as postcards.

Most of the photos were taken from a photo album and still fixed with photo corners on cardboard.

Total: roughly 116 photos and postcards.

Good condition 2.

Six Alpini divisions fought together with the Wehrmacht during WWII. The 6. Alpini-Division Alpi Graie was mainly deployed in anti-partisan combat "Bandenbekämpfung" in Greece. After the "Armistice of Cassibile" on 3. September 1943 the Alpini split. One part fought together with the partisans against the Wehrmacht. Three battalions fought in southern Italy with the Allies. The new formed (early 1944) Alpini-Division Monterosa continued to support the German forces.
