Description

Important Third Reich period time silver necklace made by the famous silversmith firm Otto and Karolina Gahr, the favourite jeweller to the NSDAP and the Nazi elite. Otto and Karolina Gahr were famous for manufacturing the eagles of the NSDAP standards for example.

Pendant with separately attached maker's tag showing two SS runes, the maker's mark of Gahr. With of the pendant: 19,5 mm.
Intricate silver chain. Two balls around the chain placed to the left and right side of the pendant hold it to a fix position. A red garnet to the centre of the pendant.

Weight: 16 gr.

Provenience:
This necklace was consigned by the step-daughter of a US GI born in 1917. He served as a translator within a military police unit of XV Corps. He was among the American soldiers who went into Dachau on the second day after its liberation.

Consignor about the words of her mother: "German soldiers had gone into the homes of Austrians and hid the objects they'd found in the salt mines of Salzburg. Walt took an armband with a swastika on it from one of these mines which he called Himmler's cave, and he gave it later to a friend who retired to a ranch in Montana. Walt also found in the cave the SS pendant which he brought home with him."
