This is a very rare German sniper smock in splinter pattern camouflage « REVERSED » colors variation print. One of the earliest produced examples dating from mid 1943. Constructed from a rare splinter camouflage pattern in « REVERSED » colors. Commonly believed to be a variation of splinter camouflage but a pattern in and of itself. The whole smock is made from the material with no variation in fabrics used hence the earlier manufactured period. Thin yet a strong rayon / cotton blended fabric that is printed on only one side. The reverse shows no evidence of anything else. The smock is in excellent condition with rich, vibrant and contrasting colors. Smock retains both its neck string and waist drawstrings that are original to the smock. Correct and proper early metal eyelets for the neck string. They are bare metal and show some slight oxidation and bleeding. The face veil is present and in excellent condition. All buttons are present and factory sewn. Smock is ink stamped with the « RBNr » and sized « I » for small. A modern day medium that would fit comfortably over any tunic on a mannequin. Overall a smock of extremely rarity and an early variation of the desirable « REVERSED » colors camouflage pattern. Choice example.
