A rare and limited US special issue « D-Day » assault vest. These vest were worn by first wave landing troops on D-Day. Manufactured by « TWEEDIE » in 1944 from a standard green poplin canvas material seen on other pieces of equipment. Size « MEDIUM ». 99% of the vest seen on period photographs appears to be of the green canvas rather than the beige. Vest is nicely designed to carry extra equipment but mostly ammunition. Khaki web straps all present. Stitching on the vest remains complete and all intact. It shows light use. Correct large brass grommets are present and tightly still fastened, one is missing. All snaps are in place. One of the rarest and highly sought after pieces of US field equipment that became iconic during « D-Day / Normandy Invasion ». Choice.
