The large-format award certificate for the War Merit Cross 1st Class to the Betriebsführer Dr.-Ing. Carl Wurster is dated January 30, 1943. With large, embossed seal and facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler as well as the countersignature of State Minister Meissner (original signature). The certificate comes with the original award folder with the national eagle embossed in gold. There is also the award of the War Merit Cross 2nd Class to the Betriebsführer Dr.-Ing. Carl Wurster dated August 17, 1940. The document has the large, embossed seal and facsimile signature Adolf Hitler and countersignature Minister of State Meissner. There is also a cover letter from Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring dated August 22, 1940, to Dr.-Ing. Carl Wurster, Ludwigshafen with thanks "for your active and successful cooperation". With original signature Hermann Göring in ink. The Reich Marshal's letterhead with embossed national eagle. Carl Wurster (born December 2, 1900, in Stuttgart to December 14, 1974, in Frankenthal (Palatinate). He was a German chemist and military industry leader. Wurster, son of the city police council, spent his school days in Stuttgart. After completing his chemistry studies and receiving his doctorate in 1923, Wurster worked for BASF from 1924 and, after the company merger, for IG Farben in Ludwigshafen. In 1934 he became head of the inorganic department and two years later its deputy director. Wurster joined the NSDAP in 1937. He was on the board of directors of the German Society for Pest Control (Degesch), which was the patent holder of the production of Zyklon B. In 1938 Wurster became a full board member and also Chief Operating Officer in Ludwigshafen at IG Farben. He became a "military economy leader" (Wehrwirtschaftsführer) and was a member of the Economics Council of the Reich Chamber of Commerce after the start of World War II. On February 10, 1944, as a board member of IG Farben, Dr. Carl Wurster received the Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross without swords. He was acquitted of all charges during the IG Farben trial on July 30, 1948. His defense attorney was the Social Democrat Friedrich Wilhelm Wagner. A particularly interesting award group for a board member of the IG Farben and very rare for a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the KVK without swords.
