Poland - Order of the white eagle Breast star from the18th century

Description

Embroidered star of the Polish Order of the White Eagle from the period between 1709 and 1764. The star is made of silver and gold thread as well as sequins. The motto "PRO FIDE LEGE ET REGE" is embroidered on silver foil; the cross, which is sewn separately to the star body, is framed by silver thread in red foil and shows a silver flower in the middle. Flame-like rays are positioned between the cross arms. The star has a beautiful patina and is despite its age, over 300 years, in fantastic condition beside being a little curved. The reverse is covered with thin, white leather and shows old ink writing in letters and numbers.

The Polish Order of the White Eagle was founded by Augustus the Strong in 1705 on the model of the Prussian Order of the Black Eagle and initially consisted of an oval, golden medallion, only. It was not until the creation of the 2nd model in 1709 that the order changed its design to a cross and a star.

Extremely rare, well-preserved star of a classic European order.
