M34 DLV glider pilot knife

Description

This DLV Dagger features early nickel mounts. The pommel is in excellent condition with no hits to the rims.

The cross-guard features the square center blocks with black enamel swastika medallion inserts on both sides. The enamel remains 100% intact throughout these swastikas on both sides. The tripartite guard arms taper nicely downward. The quillon end on this piece is not marked with a “K” stamping, nor is the scabbard throat.

The grip is made of carved wood with a covering of fine original blue Moroccan leather; this leather shows mild hand wear but has no cuts or problems. The grip itself is bulbous in the center and tapers toward either end.

The scabbard shell is straight throughout. The scabbard mounts are in absolutely prefect condition through to the lower ball, and are decorated with the usual pattern of twin lines in the area adjacent to the scabbard. They are retained by the four original flat head screws, all of which are unbuggered.

The original hanger is attached and in good condition. The leather is a fine blue color and is retained by two oval nickel disks held in place with rivets. The snap clip is an unmarked, solid nickel example.

The blade is nice and bright throughout, with a needle-like tip and fine crossgrain. The reverse ricasso is etched with the extremely desirable Balloon Man logo of the Heller firm. The figure holds a bundle of five balloons which float above his head. Beneath the salesman is the name of the firm, “Gebr Heller Marienthal / Schweina / Thr.” The leather washer intact.

A nice example here with a very desirable maker mark.
