M38 TeNo NCO's hewer

Description

This TeNo EM Hewer is in exceptional condition. There is a little bit of the plating missing on the pommel but the plating remains otherwise  intact.

The pommel detailing remains very good, with a fine, gear wheel. The back-strap, ferrule and cross-guard remain in very fine condition. The Casberg guard eagle grasps a swastika superimposed with a TeNo gear wheel. All of the factory darkening remains in the recesses of the bird and swastika.

The off-white grip plates remain in perfect condition. The plates are retained by screws and spanners, with bit screws unturned and vertically aligned.

The scabbard shell is also in fine condition. The original paint is nearly perfect, with only a minor dent to the reverse; overall this paint is 99% intact. Metal parts polished.

The reverse of the upper mount is fitted with a "U" bracket, which retains a TeNo Hewer Frog. This riveted black leather frog remains in nice condition. It has an aluminum clip marked with an Assmann "A" on the reverse.

The blade is a real beauty. It is basically an RAD type without the etching, with the same Bowie tip. It has a fine matte finish which remains in perfect condition. Serial number "8336" stamped on the scabbard throat. The reverse is darkly etched with the 1935-41 Eickhorn Squirrel trademark, as well as a TeNo style eagle. These etchings remains very crisp. The original black leather washer is in place, and looks new-like.

The portepee looks to be a replica example.
