A period untouched and as-found Waffen-SS combat helmet set. Set features a helmet cover constructed from a later « Oakleaf » camouflage material. The set was acquired from the family of an US veteran of the 99th Infantry Division, who pick it up on the battlefield during the Battle of the Bulge. The cover retains its factory applied and sewn foliage loops that are complete. The cover still retains vivid and contrasting colors. Signs of combat use are present with soiling and natural dust accumulation over the decades. Slight damage along the side. Several scuffs and nicks are present on the fabric. Later type with all bare metal clips and springs present. Some light oxidation on the cover that transferred from the helmet's surface. The helmet cover was never taken of the helmet, it is very tied to the helmet. The M42 combat helmet is a « NS66 » with the lot number « 5221 », knowing the maker and the lot number, the helmet should be a single decal Heer helmet. The interior is in overall good condition, the pig skin leather is worn and ink stamped with the size. Original leather chinstrap is present, maker marked and dated « 1940 ».
