Description

Hauptmann Weber served with a Bavarian unit in WWI. During WWII he served with Artillerie-Regiment 4 (mot.). The regiment was 1942 renamed in Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 4. Destroyed in January 1943 in Stalingrad

1914 Iron Cross 1st class on screwback. Made from real silver. Three part construction. Iron Core. Original black paint. "800" silver hallmark to the back. The frame is slightly bent. A nice variant with two screws. Good condition 2.

King Frederick William III of Prussia initially created the Iron Cross as a military decoration on March 17, 1813, during the Napoleonic Wars. The Iron Cross was also awarded during the Franco-Prussian War (1870), World War I (1914), and World War II (1939).

The Iron Cross was usually a military decoration only but awarded to civilians for performing military functions in a few instances.
