Description

Very well preserved tunic of Fusilier Roehrsheim from the 4th Company. Some moth damage, but in excellent condition for its age.

After the annexation of Electoral Hesse by Prussia in 1866 the Hessian Leib Guard Regiment was transferred to the Prussian Army and by A.K.O. on October 30, 1866. It was formed from the core of the previous regiment as well as from companies of the infantry regiments No. 31, 32, 71 and 72. On November 5, 1867 it was named Hessian Fusilier Regiment No. 80. In memory of the fallen Lieutenant General Hermann von Gersdorff the regiment was named after him and was called the Fusilier Regiment “von Gersdorff” (Hessian) No. 80. He died in 1870 during the War against France in the Battle of Sedan.

By A.K.O. on January 27, 1902, the name was changed and the unit was called Fusilier Regiment “von Gersdorff” (Kurhessisches) No. 80 until it was dissolved.
