Description

A really nice and unique German SS-VT / Heer officers infantry overseas cap. The overseas cap was acquired from the family who has kept it since the war. The cap was abandoned in their house following the occupation of it by the Waffen-SS on June 19 and 20, 1940. On June 20, 1940, the SS of the Totenkopf division massacred 18 French Senegalese riflemen in the village of Lentilly, France. The cap is untouched, as found, it retains its factory hand stitched Heer flatware « BeVo » eagle. Period application of a white soutache for infantry is nicely hand applied and folded up and over into the interior of the cap. The officers pipping is nicely factory machine straight stitched. The officer added a SS skull on the front, common practice in the early days of the war, this can be seen in period pictures. Please note that one prong is broken but is still held by the cloth behind the skull.

Interior is matching condition. Lined in a grey cotton lining. White ink stamped with the size « 58 ». Full and complete leather sweatband. A unique historic piece with a great combat look!
