Reuss - Honor Cross for the campaigns in 1814 and 1815

Description

Honor Cross for the campaigns of 1814 and 1815, in bronze (from captured canons), painted black in the lower parts. On the original grooved ring. The cross was created by the four ruling princes of Reuss for the participants in the wars of liberation "...as a reward for deeds of devotion to the preservation of German freedom". The names of the princes of Reuß-Greiz, Reuß-Schleiz, Reuß-Lobenstein and Reuß-Ebersdorf are inscribed in Roman numerals in the avers arms of the cross, the reverse shows the year of the creation "1814" in a bound laurel wreath in the center of the cross. The cross was awarded about 900 times for the Reuß participants of the war.

Very nice conditioned cross, and not often found on the market.
