Deutsches Reich 1918 - 1945
SS-LAH Schw.Pz.Abt.101 "Tiger" Normandie Nachlass Ustuf. M

Beschreibung

This grouping came straight of the veteran and stayed in a collection ever since. It is available on the market for the first time!

Extremely rare grouping to SS-Untersturmführer M. serving with Schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 101 in Normandy. During the battle of Falaise, Michael Wittmann, was killed in action serving as a company leader of his Abteilung.

SS-Panzer-Abteilung 101, later renamed to SS-Panzer-Abteilung 501, was part of "Kampfgruppe Peiper" and serving in the Ardennes.

Soldbuch issued in March 1942. Original attached photograph still inside. Units noted on page 4 including "LSSAH", "2.Pan.Gren.Rgt. LSSAH" and "SS Komp. Schw.Pz.Abt.101"

An interesting list of winter uniform gear issued to him on page 8. Including felt boots, a parka, a white camo smock and more. It was given to him before the battle of Charkow.
August 1944 dated notes allowing him to purchased officer's tunics, boots a case and more.

Awards on page 22:
Wound Badge in black, Wound Badge in silver, Iron Cross 1st Class, Close Combat Clasp in bronze.

Well worn condition. Cover taped decades ago. Loose pages with old paper repairs. All pages complete.

23 photographes including some great portraits of him. Most cut in size. One very interesting picture of him wearing a Heer mountain cap with an SS metal skull attached above the army eagle.

There are 3 newspapers articles about him printed in 2009. He tells many details on his military service time and early postwar time. He talkes about the German Cross winner Rolf Möbius and hiss Abteilung commander SS-Sturmbannführer Heinz von Westernhagen. He was asked to find a place for his grave after he committed suicide in Hungary in March 1945.
