Leutnant Karl Heinrich Banze was born on 24.7.1911. He has joined the Reichswehr in 1933 and was transferred to the Wehrmacht in 1935. Being promoted an Oberwachtmeister, he was sent to Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 244 on 12.5.1941 which fought in Russia shortly after. Banze has destroyed 13 Russian tanks on a single day (15.5.1942) and was therefore awarded the Knight's Cross on 27.5.1942. On 25.5.1942, he was awarded the Honor Roll Clasp.
