Document and photo to Feldwebel and Zugführer Willy Hanske who was missed in action on 2.9.1943 during the battle of Charkow. The original letter of his Leutnant and Kompanie leader is part of the grouping as well as a 1947 dated copy written by machine. The letter describes many interest details. He refused the help of an Obergefreiter who found him injured and said he will go back by himself. Hanske gave him hin MP and said "Ich kann schon selbst noch gehen, macht ihr nur weiter!".
Hanske was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class during the Charkow campaign which was awarded to him on 5.9.1943, three days after he was missed.
Hanske never returned otherwise the original letter would have not confirmed in 1947.

Finally, 4 photographes of Hanske. One shows him in 1941 as a Feldwebel and "Offiziersanwärter". He belonged to the "Führerreserve" of his batallion as the letter confirms.
