A magnificent and extremely rare USM1 fixed bale front seam combat helmet set to the 4th Infantry Division « IVY ». This helmet was found years ago in a house of the small village of Faymonville in the Ardennes, Belgium. This division has taken part and landed on Utah Beach during the D-DAY Invasion in Normandy, France and all other main battles in the ETO including the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany. The helmet is a matching and complete set. Attributed both shell and liner the the famous 4th Infantry Division. The helmet shell is in very good condition with normal wear and paint loose along the rim and top. The helmet's exterior features a period hand painted 4th Infantry Division emblem in a typical green paint along the front. The back has a white horizontal NCO bar. As evidenced by the photos, the helmet was equipped with a camouflage net before being camouflaged with anti-gas paint. This helmet has a very rudimentary method of camouflage application that appears to be simple splotches, the shadowing of the camouflage net still is visible within the pattern. The helmet retains its original factory applied chin straps made from a classic web material and retains their early brass hardware. Several areas of the period paint can be seen on the chin straps. The shell's interior is in good condition and retains a piece of white tape that was probably retaining the soldier’s name but it has been cover with green paint. The early liner is in matching condition to the shell in regards to wear and slight rust along the rim. It also features the green divisional insignia painted along the front. Showing good use from wear but missing the sweatband. Dust and dirt are present along the suspension system. The leather chinstrap is present and well fixed to the liner. A piece of white tape that was probably retaining the soldier’s name is also present in the liner. A desirable helmet to one of the most famous US Infantry Divisions of World War Two.
