Deutsches Reich 1918 - 1945
Kriegstagebuch der "Kampfgruppe" für Juli & August 1943

Beschreibung

1.7.1943 - 31.08.1943 war diary to the "Kampfgruppe".

Preparation and implementation of the "Operation Zitronella", the occupation of Spitsbergen. 2 diaries with about 20 pages each and numerous attachments (for example cues and landings), about 100 pages in total. Including a Statement and original signature of Admirals Nordmeer KAdm. Küber.

The "Kampfgruppe" (combat group) was a federation of the Kriegsmarine, which consisted of several units. It was set up in February 1943 and existed until October 1944. The Department of the "Befehlshaber der Kampfgruppe (BdK)" emerged from the former "Befehlshaber der Kreuzer" and was directly subordinate to the fleet command, which was united in March 1943 with the "Marine Gruppenkommando Nord". "Operation Zitronella" in September 1943 a strike against the enemy base on Spitsbergen was the only notable operation of this association. Kummetz commanded the battleships Tirpitz and Scharnhorst, three destroyer flotillas and a battalion of the 345th Grenadier Regiment in battalion strength, which destroyed on Spitsbergen Allied land facilities. This operation was the last successful combat mission of a large German fleet association and the last aggressively conducted battle of the Tirpitz.
