1870 Iron Cross 2nd Class

Description

An adorable miniature medal bar of a non-combatant of the 1849 and 1870/71 war consisting of the Prussian Commemorative Medal for the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 in steel on non-combatant ribbon, the Iron Cross 2nd class 1870 on combatant ribbon and the Saxon 1849 Commemorative medal in non-combatant ribbon.

The bar is constructed just like a full size bar in Saxon style on trifold ribbons.

A very rare combination not just in miniature.

Terminated on the reverse with a safety pin.

King Frederick William III of Prussia initially created the Iron Cross as a military decoration on March 17, 1813, during the Napoleonic Wars. The Iron Cross was also awarded during the Franco-Prussian War (1870), World War I (1914), and World War II (1939).

The Iron Cross was usually a military decoration only but awarded to civilians for performing military functions in a few instances.
