M40 Luftwaffe sand textured two tone camouflage combat helmet, « ex-bailing wire »

Description

A superb M1940 Luftwaffe sand textured two-tone camouflage combat helmet. The helmet is an « SE64 » with a lot number of « ?06 ». The helmet has had a very nice and complete application of sand textured paint. A bailing wire was applied to the helmet. The helmet later received a complete coat of two-tone green and tan paint over its sand finish and the bailing wire. This gives the helmet a very attractive and contrasting paint scheme rarely seen. The bailing wire is no longer with the helmet but the shadowing of the frame still is visible within the pattern. Light wear is present with few scuffs and scraps. Luftwaffe decal can be seen under the paint coming through. Split pins intact and untouched. Helmet's interior is untouched and complete. Leather liner is in really nice slightly worn condition. Light brown in color, drawstring present and ink stamped for size along the tip of the leather tongue. Original leather chinstrap is complete and supple, maker marked and dated « 1941 » along the tip. The back skirt is nicely named in white paint « Am Scheele ». Overall a very nice and highly desirable Luftwaffe camouflage combat helmet. Choice.

This helmet is published in the book: « Tarnfarben, Volume 1 » by Oliver Lock on page 92.
