The National Socialist Community “Kraft durch Freude” ( KdF ) was founded on November 27, 1933 as a sub-organization of the German Labor Front (DAF) with the aim of fulfilling the Nazi regime 's claim to totality by "establishing a real community of people and performance of all Germans".

The organization, based in Berlin, existed from 1933 to 1945, with most of the activities being switched to front support and "cultural dispersal" of the German troops at the beginning of the Second World War in 1939. With the Office for Travel, Hiking and Holidays, KdF was the largest tour operator during the National Socialist era.
