MS "Monte Rosa" was a passenger ship that was handed over to the German shipping company Hamburg-Südamerikanische Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft, Hamburg in 1931. The ship was built number 492 at the shipyard Blohm & Voss in Hamburg , and after the handover was put into service between Hamburg and South America . After 1933, MS "Monte Rosa" was chartered as a KdF ship ( Kraft durch Freude ), and sailed in this role until the outbreak of World War II, when she was requisitioned by the German Kriegsmarine.
