Heer geschmückte Feldbluse

Beschreibung

Rare ornamented Gebirgsjäger service tunic to later Generalleutnant der Gebirgsjäger Walter Stettner Ritter von Grabenhofen (1895 - 1944). Stettner ordered this tunic from the tailor "KUHN & NUPNAU" based in Munich where Stettner was born. It was delivered in August 1939 after Stettner being promoted an Oberstleutnant as commander of I./Geb.Jäg.Rgt.136.

Stettner, an early Freikorps Epp member, served as commander of Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 99 and 91 before he was promoted an Oberst and commander of 1. Gebirgs-Division. He was awarded the Knight’s Cross for bravery during the battles in the Caucasus on 23.4.1943 and promoted a Generalmajor the same day. In April 1943, Stettner was sent to Albania and Montenegro where he was reported missed in action on 18.10.1944 near Belgrad.

Fine tunic with original attached insignia. Machine-attached Gebirgsjäger officer's collar tabs. Hand-attached officer's breast eagle. Oberstleutnant shoulder boards sewn-it. One rank pip missing. Parade aiguillette attached to the right shoulder board (no button). All buttons complete and original attached as well.

Two pair of loops for awards as well as 5 loops for roughly 15cm long medal/field bar. Excellent quality hand-embroidered officer's Edelweiss sleeve badge attached by hand.

Named tailor's tag attached to the inner pocket. "Obstlt. v. Stettner". "16.8.39" dated.

A very rare tunic and even rare as worn by a later Generalleutnant and Knight's Cross recipient.

Slightly moth damaged.

Small size.
