A German M40 helmet. The type of helmet was issued to Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Polilzei and Waffen-SS troops. This example was issued by the Heer and originally came with a single eagle decal which is now covered by paint.
Paint: Original factory paint with a period time 3-color camo paint on top. Sprayed. Around 75% still present. Rust and signs of wear and age.
This type of 3-color paint was typically worn like that by troops serving during the invasion in Normandy.
Lining: Flexible leather lining. Still soft but damaged. The missing bits are still there. Missing cord. Most probably size 56. No markings visible to the lining and shell.
