This is a unique and rare M1940 Luftwaffe heavy sand textured camouflage helmet with cable. The helmet is an « Q66 » with a lot number of « 7868 ». The helmets exterior remains in its untouched and undisturbed state. The exterior of the helmet was first camouflaged with a very thick coat of blue paint mixed with sand. The Luftwaffe decal was carefully painted around and rates at 99%. Later the helmet was equipped with a period applied wire cable, most probably a bicycle brake cable. The cable shows nice patina and nice age being original to the helmet since the war. The helmet's interior is in very good shape. The leather liner is in good supple condition and retains its original drawstring. The original early unmarked brown leather chinstrap is present. The soldier’s initials « HA » are present on the leather. Overall a great and unique camouflage combat helmet.
